Fethiye (Pammakaristos Church) Mosque/Museum is located in the Çarsamba district of today’s Istanbul and is one of the important churches of the Byzantine period. This structure, which was first established during the Komnenos period, expanded and changed over time. The church attracts attention, especially with its parekklesion known as Theotokos Pammakaristos Monastery. The church was founded by John Komnenos and his wife Anna Doukaina and was later restored by Michael Tarchaneiotes Glabas.
The parekklesion was added to the south side of the church by Maria around 1310 to house the tomb of Michael Tarchaneiotes. This additional structure is decorated with various mosaics and contains scenes from the life of Jesus and groups of saints. There are ancient tombs in different parts of the church, especially in the inner ambulatory and outer ambulatory of the naos. The history of the building is considered a remarkable cultural heritage dating back to the Byzantine period.
